THE PROBLEM

Wholesale buying is catalogues and search. You have to know what you are looking for before you can find it, which is fine for restocking and useless for discovery.

WHAT WE BUILT, AND WHAT WE DID NOT

The Flutter app was not ours. The backend and the recommendation engine were.

  • FastAPI services behind the feed.
  • Candidates precomputed, then re-evaluated per request.
  • Cursor paging and seen-state, so the same listing does not reappear.
  • Ranking behind an API, so it changes without an app store release.

THE DECISION THAT MATTERED

Buying behaviour is not entertainment behaviour. A merchant looking at something twice is doing arithmetic, not enjoying themselves. Optimise for attention and you get a feed people enjoy and nobody buys from.
